Platelet Rich Plasma/Platelet Rich Fibrin for Facial Rejuvenation
PRP/PRF
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) and PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) are both advanced treatments in regenerative medicine and aesthetics that use components from your own blood to promote healing, rejuvenation, and tissue regeneration.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
PRP is a concentrate of platelets and plasma proteins derived from your own blood.
The process involves drawing a small amount of blood, spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the components, and extracting the platelet-rich layer.
PRP contains growth factors and proteins that stimulate cell repair and collagen production.
It’s commonly used for skin rejuvenation (such as “vampire facials”), hair restoration, and to accelerate healing in injuries.
Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF)
PRF is a newer generation product, also obtained from your blood, but processed differently.
The centrifugation for PRF is slower and without anticoagulants, which results in a fibrin matrix that traps platelets, white blood cells, and growth factors, releasing them more slowly over time.
PRF is considered more natural and may provide longer-lasting results due to the sustained release of growth factors.
It’s used for similar purposes as PRP—skin rejuvenation, hair growth, wound healing, and even in dental procedures.
Benefits of PRP/PRF Therapy
PRP/PRF has many benefits when it comes to aesthetics. These procedures can help minimize pores, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, fade scars, improve skin texture and tone, and reduce under-eye hollowing and discoloration.
Frequently Asked Questions
Wondering if PRP/PRF is for you? Here are some of the frequently asked questions
answered by our lead physician Dr. Lisa Smaldone.
-
The most commonly treated areas with PRP/PRF are the under-eyes and temples. You can treat other areas as well but these are the most common.
-
Each patient is different when it comes to the number of treatments needed. We recommend a series of 3 treatments, especially for the under-eyes and temples. More than 3 treatments may be required depending on the patient, amount yielded from your blood, area we are looking to treat and desired results.
-
We recommend waiting 4-6 weeks between each treatment to allow the body to be stimulated by the plasma or fibrin.
-
The downtime for this procedure is minimal due to the few injections. You may notice swelling and “lumps” for the next few days to weeks. This is normal and will resolve over time but each patient’s timeline of resolution may vary depending on how quickly your body repairs & recovers.
-
You are a candidate for PRP/PRF as long as you do not have any active infections or lesions. If you have high albumin (protein), certain blood conditions or recent facial surgery, we recommend a consultation prior to booking to ensure you are a candidate. Please notify your provider if you are prone to cold sores.
