A chemical peel is a skin treatment that uses an acid solution on the top layers of the skin. The acid exfoliates the skin and sheds the damaged skin causing the underlying skin layer to take its place and promote healing. It reveals new, regenerated skin that has a fresh and smooth appearance.

Chemical peels can treat:

• Uneven skin tone and texture

• Certain types of acne and acne scars

• Large skin pores

• Sunburnt or sun damaged skin

• Fine lines around the mouth and eyes

• Wrinkles

• Sagging skin

• Dark spots, and patches

Your esthetician will recommend a treatment plan after assessing your skin concerns and aesthetic needs.

We first deep cleanse your skin. Our staff exfoliates the skin to remove any product, oils, and dirt. This allows the chemicals to uniformly penetrate the skin.

We then apply the chemical peel treatment to the skin. The chemical agent remains on the skin for several minutes.

Patients may experience a tingling sensation that lasts for five to ten minutes.

Patients should avoid chemical peels if they have any of the following conditions:

• Active cold sores, herpes simplex, or warts in the treatment area

• Wounds, sunburn, or sensitivity in the treatment area

• A history of recent radiation or chemotherapy

• Aspirin allergy

• Pregnant or breastfeeding women

• Vitiligo

• A history of autoimmune diseases or disorders

• Weakened immune system

Patients may experience a tingling, skin redness, irritation, and flaking. The discomfort is limited and depends on the Intensity of the peel used.

Immediately after a peel, you will notice redness due to inflammation and mild irritation. This is followed by scaling for 3-7 days for mild peels and 7-14 days for medium and deep peels.

The regenerated skin is sensitive to the sun. We advise the use of sunscreen and avoiding sunlight for a few weeks.

A gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen will enhance the healing process and result. You can resume normal activities after the peel. However, avoid strenuous activities and sweating for 2-3 days after a peel. Once the skin starts peeling, avoid sun exposure.

• Do not pick or peel the flaking skin – this can lead to scarring.

• Do not apply makeup on wounded skin

• Do not use tanning beds and outdoor tanning until the skin has fully healed

For specialized peels, our staff will instruct you with any additional care instructions.

This will depend on your age and other factors that could affect your cell renewal process. On average, it could take 1-2 months before you see the final results. It takes new collagen and elastin this long to produce a noticeable difference in your skin
