Here are some of the frequently asked questions answered by our estheticians.

  • Microneedling involves the use of thin steel needles to make small pores in the top layer of your skin to encourage collagen and elastin production while taking advantage of the body’s natural healing response.

  • Collagen and elastin are key elements in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and microneedling encourages the production of both collagen and elastin. Your skin will look more hydrated and tight.

    Patients have also seen an improvement in overall skin texture, fewer fine lines, reduced hyper-pigmented/dark spots, and reduced scarring from acne as well as shrinking of large pores.

  • Cleansing and Preparation: The process starts with cleansing the skin, applying a topical numbing cream, and drawing blood to separate the platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

    Microneedling Treatment: An advanced microneedling handpiece is used to apply the PRP to the skin, incorporating growth factors that enhance hydration, reduce skin laxity, and improve texture.

    Duration and Post-Treatment Care: The treatment lasts about 30 minutes, followed by the application of a micronutrient-rich moisturizer. Afterward, it's important to avoid direct sun exposure and apply only water and the prescribed moisturizer to the skin due to increased sensitivity.

  • Micro-needling can essentially be used on any part of the body. At La Vie, the most popular areas to treat are the face, neck, and decollete. Microneedling can also be effective on old scars and stretch marks.

  • Our patients begin to notice tightening and a more even tone to their skin, a few days after their first session.

    For areas with deeper imperfections, results can be subtler, and additional treatments are usually required. Remodeling and results will continue to build for up to 6 months.

  • The procedure takes 30-45 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.

  • Microneedling can cause some discomfort, especially in areas with deeper imperfections. To ensure you are comfortable throughout the process, we use a topical numbing cream before the procedure

  • Regardless of the skin issue, our patients have noticed brighter and tighter skin right after the session. We do not recommend you plan any significant events right after the session due to mild redness being common.

    Allow yourself at least 24 hrs to help your skin recover and to note the resolution of any mild redness or swelling. We recommend you observe the following during this period:

    • Avoid direct sunlight and exposure to harmful UV rays

    • Do not go swimming or immerse your face in water

    • Avoid strenuous exercise or any activities that promote sweating/flushing

    • Do not apply makeup or lotions

    Since most of our patients need multiple sessions to help achieve their skin goals, we recommend spacing them 4 weeks apart and purchasing a multi-session package.

    Remember it may take 1- 2 months before you see your final results. It takes this long to produce a noticeable difference in your skin’s collagen and elastin.

  • You are a candidate for microneedling as long as you do not have any active infections or lesions. Please notify your provider if you are prone to cold sores.

  • Microneedling is not recommended for pregnant women or if you are using certain acne medications. This will be assessed by our experts on your first beauty consultation. We also urge cessation of retinoids before the procedure.

  • This will depend on your age and other factors that could affect your cell renewal process. On average, it could take 1-2 months before you see the final results. It takes new collagen and elastin this long to produce a noticeable difference in your skin

  • The number of treatments you require depends on your age, area of treatment, and skin condition. We usually recommend 4-6 treatments spaced between 4-8 weeks apart.

    We also recommend a maintenance treatment every 6 - 12 months.

  • The temporary side effects of microneedling are swelling and mild redness.
